Alica Prokopová, PhD. - translator and interpreter

Translating and interpreting are my principal occupations, as well as my hobby since 1985 when I finished my graduate studies of translation and interpretation at the Comenius University in Bratislava in the specialization of Spanish – Russian. My interest for English brought me to study at the Miami-Dade Community College in Miami (USA), where I worked and lived during 10 years.

I improved Spanish in Spain (during a summer course organized by the Complutense University in Madrid) in the countries of Central and South America (Cuba, Venezuela). I was awarded with the Diploma of Basic Spanish As A Foreign Language (Diploma Básico De Español Como Lengua Extranjera) by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science (El Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia del Reino de España).

I graduated in the Sovietic High School in Bulgaria and kept studying Russian by attending the Kliment Ohridski University in Sofia in Bulgaria and later the Comenius University in Bratislava. I improved my knowledge of Russian during six months of fellowship in Moscow.

I used and am still using my knowledge for translating and interpreting at my work in Slovakia (my native country where I recently reside), the same as in Latin American countries and in the United States. I worked as an interpreter in different types of social activities, work meetings, workshops, international conferences. I translated for massmedia (journals, radio, television, cinematography), for agencies and public institutions. I also worked as a translator and interpreter in cinematography festivals and in another cultural activities.
